Why I enjoy kids’ movies more than other movies

Have you ever sat down, watched a kids’ movie and loved it? No, I’m not talking about ‘Barbie’ or ‘Spongebob’. I mean movies like ‘Trolls’, ‘The Secret Life of Pets‘ and all those ones from Dreamworks and Disney.

Because let’s be real, adult movies can be so cliche and a little predictable. Don’t get me wrong, 75% of them are really good. It’s just that kids’ movies are so damn amazing.

Take the other night, for example. I was scrolling through my socials (as you do when one is bored). I went to my streaming site and saw that the animated kids’ movie, ‘Trolls’ had recently been added. Sure, why not. Well, I fecking loved every second of it. I underestimated how fantastic it is.

I’m a sucker for musical songs, especially when they’re covers of songs I like. So imagine my reaction when I heard the acoustic version of ‘True Colours’? I almost cried. [SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN’T WATCHED THE MOVIE YET] When Princess Poppy and all the Trolls lose all hope and their colours disappear is such a heart-breaking scene. And Branch signing ‘True Colours’ to bring it all back was beautiful. DAMN IT, I’M EMOTIONAL.

Honestly, what is my life? Seriously, kids movies these days are so much better than other movies. Why? Because of the message they send to the younger generation. Especially Disney’s ‘Inside Out’. Man, I damn well learnt some important things about mental health after watching that. So important for kids to know as well.

All you need is a simple story, no matter how weird it is, a good cast and an important message. That’s it. That’s why kids movies are so much better. They’re enjoyable not just for the kids, but for the adults too. All those adult jokes that are slipped into the script are my favourite part. It’s great.

So well done Disney and Dreamworks. You have probably just changed my life, again. My inner child is raging.
