A new generation of “Plastics” is set to return to the big screen, but “Jingle Bell Rock” isn’t all they’ll be performing.

The 2004 cult classic Mean Girls by writer and creator Tina Fey was adapted into its own Tony-nominated Broadway musical in 2018. Now, Paramount Pictures is bringing the fan-favorite to the big screen… again. Here’s everything you need to know about the film so far:

A Cast List That Is So Fetch

Following the announcement in December 2022, fans erupted with excitement at the rounding out of the main cast.

Angourie Rice (Senior Year) will play our beloved Cady Heron bookended by Reneé Rapp (The Sex Lives of College Girls) who will reprise her Broadway role as Regina George.

Avantika (Senior Year) will ignite her “ESPN” by taking on Karen Smith and Bebe Wood (Love, Victor) will be our queen of Toaster Strudel Gretchen Wieners.

Moana’s Auli’i Cravalho will play Janis with Jaquel Spivey (Broadway’s A Strange Loop) playing Damien. Additionally, Christopher Briney, breakout star of The Summer I Turned Pretty, is set to play Aaron Samuels.

Tina Fey announced in February 2023 that she will be reprising her role as Ms. Norbury alongside Tim Meadows reprising his role as Principal Duvall.

We can’t forget about our parents! Jenna Fischer (The Office) will play Cady’s mother and Busy Philipps (Girls5Eva) has been added to take on Regina’s totally not regular “cool mom.”

Can the Original Cast Sit With Us?

Last month, it appeared to be in talks that our original “Plastics” Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, and Amanda Seyfried would make cameos in the upcoming adaptation. The rumor was even addressed by Amanda Seyfried who confirmed that all 4 girls were on board to appear in the film. However, talks have seemed to come to a stand-still as Paramount Pictures allegedly has offered “disrespectful” salary negotiations to the acclaimed actresses.

4 For You Tina Fey! You Go, Tina Fey!

The film will be directed by Arturo Perez Jr. and Samantha Jayne in their first directorial project on a major movie. In addition to acting, Tina Fey will be writing and producing the musical adaptation in partnership with Lorne Michaels (Saturday Night Live). The songs are written by Fey’s husband Jeff Richmond with lyrics by Nell Benjamin, and viral YouTube choreographer Kyle Hanagami is set to choreograph.

It’s October 3rd

Production was set to begin in New Jersey this month, but dedicated fans of Rapp have noted that pre-production has already been in the works via her TikTok.
