[INTERVIEW] OMEGA X: Writing the Next Chapter, One Note at a Time

Since their debut, OMEGA X have continued to evolve with every new release, showcasing not only their growth as artists but also the strength of the bond they share as a team. As they look ahead to their next chapter, the group remain focused on creating music that reflects who they are while continuing to connect with fans around the world. We caught up with the members JAECHAN, HWICHAN, SEBIN, HANGYEOM, TAEDONG, XEN, JEHYUN, KEVIN, HYUK and YECHAN. to talk about their latest music, the creative process behind it, what they’ve learned throughout their journey so far, and the moments that have shaped them both on and off the stage.

UNCAPPED is your first album in over two years. Looking back at that time away, what emotions did you feel on the day you finally started working on this comeback?

JAEHAN: I was really excited by the thought that we were finally able to make a comeback. We had waited such a long time for this, so I also felt thrilled about creating a new album.
SEBIN: After completing my military service, I was eager to share new music with FOR X as soon as possible, so I was incredibly happy when I heard that we would be releasing a new album!
XEN: It honestly didn’t feel real. Since I had continued staying active through OX:N promotions and solo releases, I initially approached it as though we were simply preparing another album, just as we had before. But as the preparations continued, it gradually started to sink in that we were truly returning as OMEGA X.
KEVIN: Since we were making our comeback after such a long time, I strongly wanted to give our fans something to look forward to. I think there’s always something exciting about sharing new sides with people.

The album is called UNCAPPED. What is something about OMEGA X that FOR X still hasn’t fully seen yet that’s finally “uncapped” now? 

JAEHAN: To be honest, I feel like I’ve already shown everything, but I’m sure there are still sides of us that we haven’t revealed yet. I think those sides naturally come out when I feel more relaxed and comfortable within myself, so this time I tried to approach things with a more easy going mindset. I hope our fans can watch and discover a new side of me through that.
HWICHAN: It’s the moment when OMEGA X comes together as one and freely sings
and dances on stage!
SEBIN: Through this album, every member has grown. What’s finally being uncapped is the confidence and pride we feel in believing that this is our strongest and most impressive album yet.

JAEHAN, YECHAN, and XEN were heavily involved in writing and producing the album. Was there a particular song that changed the most from the first demo to the final version?

JAEHAN: Most of the songs were completed without changing too drastically, but if I had to choose one, I would say “Cork.” There was actually a completely different
version of the song.
XEN: Personally, I think most of the songs turned out very close to how they were first created. However, I feel especially attached to the title track, “UNCAPPED,” because we developed it together with the members from its initial idea.
YECHAN: “UNCAPPED.” Since it was the title track, a lot of thought and careful consideration went into it.

The album features two unit songs with very different concepts. How did the members decide which stories and sounds fit each unit best?

XEN: When we began working on the unit song, I had many conversations with JAEHAN and YECHAN. We spent a lot of time thinking deeply about the kinds of
rhythms and sounds that we could perform well. I’m happy that we ended up with a unit track that suits the vocal tones of YECHAN, JAEHAN and me.
JEHYUN: We had a lot of discussions about the kind of sound we wanted for our unit track as a quartet, and we also looked at references from other artists. In the end, I think we created a beat and overall sound that fit us well.
KEVIN: We tried to take everyone’s musical directions into consideration and find a compromise that suited all of us. I think that process naturally resulted in the three-
member and four-member unit songs having very different concepts.

YECHAN mentioned that this album reflects the growth you’ve gained over the years. What do you think longtime FOR X will notice most about the OMEGA X of 2026 compared to the OMEGA X they first met?

YECHAN: I think FOR X will recognize that we understand and respect one another more now, and that we have a stronger desire to communicate the emotions that come from those relationships.

“Life Detox” challenges the idea that we always need to have everything figured out or be perfect. Why was that message important for OMEGA X to share right now?

XEN: I think we’ve lived with far too many thoughts and worries. This felt like a time when we needed a detox from life, and I hope the people listening to the song can experience that sense of detox alongside us.
KEVIN: Of course, it’d be wonderful if we could always do everything perfectly, but I don’t believe true perfection exists. Even when people think something is perfect, they naturally want it to become even more perfect and may never feel fully satisfied. That’s why we wanted the song to carry the message that even if things aren’t perfect, we should simply enjoy the moment.

“Cork” uses the image of a bottle finally being opened. Is there something you’ve been “bottling up” creatively that you’re excited to show fans through this new chapter?

JAEHAN: It’d be my honest feelings. I always try to be honest with people, but there are definitely times when I’m unable to be completely open. So I always make an effort to share my emotions with our fans sincerely and truthfully.
YECHAN: I’m gradually trying to express myself in bolder ways. I think doing so actually makes me feel more at ease.

What’s the most OMEGA X thing that happened while making this album?

HWICHAN: It’s when all of the individual parts of each member came together and blended into something powerful.
JEHYUN: Even though it had been a long time since we had all gathered together, every moment of the preparation process felt very much like OMEGA X. We were the same OMEGA X we’ve always been.
KEVIN: We once had a meeting about the direction we wanted the album to take. As expected, because every member has a different personality and style, there were many different opinions. I think that diversity itself is very OMEGA X.

What’s one question you wish people would ask about UNCAPPED but haven’t asked yet? (And what’s your answer?)

JAEHAN: The question would be, “If ‘UNCAPPED’ weren’t the title track, which song would you want to be the title track instead?” My answer would be “Cork.” It’s a song that can make a hot summer feel cool and refreshing.
SEBIN: Question: “How did you become so cool and good looking?” Answer: I worked out and practiced really hard for FOR X.

Finally, is there anything you’d like to say to FOR X around the world?

JAEHAN: Thank you for waiting such a long time for OMEGA X’s comeback. I hope our new album can bring FOR X a lot of comfort and courage. We will always be together with FOR X!
HWICHAN: We can’t live without FOR X! I love you!!
SEBIN: No matter where FOR X may be, we’ll go to you. Love you all!
