ICYMI: The Best Bits of the MTV Movie & TV Awards 2017

0

Last night saw the first ever ‘MTV Movie & TV Awards’ take place and it was a night to remember for sure. From star studded performances to memorable moments on stage, here are the MTV Movie & TV Awards best bits.

The insane ‘Beauty and the Beast’ opening

If you don’t start the show with the bang, there’s little promise on how the rest of the night is going to pan out. Luckily, Adam Devine put on a show-stopper (or show starter?) by parodying the 2017 live action of ‘Beauty and the Beast‘, featuring Rebel Wilson as Mrs Potts, Blake Anderson as Lumiere, Hailee Steinfeld as Belle and of course, Adam himself as The Beast. Josh Gad even took part and reprised his role as Le Fou, which was personally my favourite bit. The film’s star, Emma Watson, seemed quite impressed by the whole skit, too.

Noah Cyrus’ ‘Stay Together’ performance

Miley’s lil sis turned the venue into a skatepark to perform her latest single, ‘Stay Together’. This was her first big TV performance and I have to admit, she really nailed it. You wouldn’t catch me dead at a skatepark, but I really wanted to be there dancing along to her incredible performance.

Millie Bobby Brown winning Best Actor in a TV Show

After her outstanding performance as ‘Eleven’ in ‘Stranger Things’, everyone was thrilled to see Millie Bobby Brown win the best actor in a TV show. Despite only being 12 years old, she was so graceful and professional in accepting such a big award that it melted everyone’s hearts.

The entire show breaking barriers

The entire awards show was probably the most woke ceremony MTV has ever held. From breaking gender barriers to spreading awareness about pressing issues, there was a lot to talk about besides the entertainment factor. Taraji P. Henson’s speech was one of the most incredible and inspiring with a feminist point of view.

I don’t know about you, but this performance got all of us at UBP HQ up on our feet dancing to this heck of a groove. Then when Camila came floating in wearing that gorgeous dress, we were floored. The song has been stuck in our head ever since!

Emma Watson’s speech after winning ‘Best Actor in a Movie’

This was the first ever movie awards show to create genderless categories and of course, our Queen – Emma Watson – was the winner of the first ever genderless award. Being an advocate for equality, Miss Watson had something to say about the award itself as well as her rightful win.

“The first acting award in history that doesn’t separate nominees based on their sex says something about how we perceive the human experience. MTV’s move to create a genderless award for acting will mean something different to everyone. But to me, it’s that acting is the about the ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes and that doesn’t need to be separated into two separate categories.”

The show was such a fun, fascinating night full of worthy winners and incredible nominees to begin with. ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and ‘Stranger Things‘ were the movie and TV show that came out on top, both winning two awards each. Other notable wins were Ashton Sanders and Jharrel Jerome for Best Kiss with ‘Moonlight’ and ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ for Best Reality Competition.
