10 pop Christmas covers you need to have on your playlist
Now it’s November, we can officially start getting CHRISTMASSY. And while I love myself some Christmas songs, I’m also quite keen on covers, in particular by pop stars. So I’ve dug out some of my favourite pop star Christmas covers for you to get into the festive mood with.
1. ‘Santa Claus Is Coming To Town’ – Justin Bieber
Who doesn’t love a bit of fetus Biebs getting into festivities with some Christmas songs? He released a Christmas album a while ago and this is perhaps one of my favourite covers of the song.
2. ‘Santa Baby’ – Taylor Swift
Good ol’ Swifty put a bit of a country spin on her cover of ‘Santa Baby’ and it makes me want to put on my cowboy boots and Christmas hat.
3. ‘Winter Wonderland’ – Selena Gomez
Back when she was with ‘The Scene’, Selly G covered a rocky version of ‘Winter Wonderland’ which is such a great one to bop around to.
4. ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday’ – Olly Murs
Essex cheeky chappy Olly Murs slowed it down with this cover of Wizzard’s classic and really gives me that comforting Christmas cosiness. Especially when you have the fire lit, your PJs on after a nice hot bath and reading a good book.
5. ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ – Fifth Harmony
Our favourite American girl band sleighed (geddit?) with this cover of the iconic Mariah Carey song and it’s got me so ready for Christmas season.
6. ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ – Band Aid 30
Here’s a whole hoard of pop stars covering a song by an older generation of pop stars for charity. This song for me is when you know the season is well and truly upon us and also reminds you to think of the less fortunate during what’s our ‘most wonderful time of the year’.
7. ‘Last Christmas’ – Ariana Grande
Adding a modern twist to the ‘WHAM!’ Christmas classic, ya girl Ari gets into the Christmas spirit with this poptastic cover.
8. ‘Rocking Around The Christmas Tree’ – Miley Cyrus
If you didn’t feel like an edgy teen/tween rocking out to this at Christmas, were you even a 90s kid? Miley Cyrus in her Disney Channel days graced the Christmas parade with this song and it was later released as a cover. I definitely feel kwl listening to this.
9. ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’ – Sam Smith
With his angelic vocal chords, Sam Smith adds a little bit of love with this yuletide cover of ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’, bringing it with a modern twist for this generation.
10. ‘It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas’ – Michael Buble
Did you really think I wouldn’t include the king of Christmas covers himself? This is perhaps my favourite song to listen to while decorating, wrapping presents and writing cards. Bublé is here and it’s time to kick off the festive season. Hooray!
And on that note, let Christmas begin.
