Olivia Rodrigo is back with major music news today, releasing her newest single “deja vu” and announcing the release of her debut album, temporarily titled *O*R.

After wiping her Instagram feed clean last week, Olivia posted videos of old TV sets playing teasers of the music video that caused a stir on social media. She even posted a sneak peek of the new song on her TikTok the night before its release.

The follow-up single to “drivers license,” “deja vu” is a song full of experiences that Olivia thinks back to when she notices her ex doing them with their new significant other: “So when you gonna tell her that we did that too? / She thinks it’s special, but it’s all reused.”

Speaking of déjà vu, lyrics in the first two verses make their way back into the bridge of the song. Her attention to detail in her songwriting and production makes it feel very personal, which is a good sign of her intentions as an artist.

Rodrigo plays on the literal concept of déjà vu in the dreamy music video set in Malibu, where she and her co-star wear the same outfits and go to the same places. The TV sets seen in the teasers she posted were in the video, playing scenes from her memories that mirror the projector scenes in the “drivers license” music video.

In the midst of the single release, it was announced that Olivia’s highly-anticipated debut album will be released on May 21 and include 11 songs. While the title, album art, and tracklist are currently under wraps, the album is available for preorder on her website, along with brand new merch.

The singer has had a huge year so far: “drivers license” is currently in its 11th week on the Billboard Hot 100 (where it spent eight consecutive weeks at No. 1), she turned 18 in February, and her show High School Musical: The Musical: The Series recently wrapped filming its second season, which returns to our screens May 14 on Disney+.

Although it’s only April, we’re thinking that 2021 will continue to be a life-changing year for Olivia.
