Niall answered 27 questions from fans on Twitter yesterday using 15-30 second video clips. So basically that’s like, 10 whole minutes of brand new footage of Niall talking. I’ve never been so thankful to have my Twitter timeline spammed. He shared a lot of interesting things about his music, his life, and his time in One Direction. Here are 27 new things we learned about him.

  1. He wrote ‘This Town’ in March.

Although we heard chatter earlier in the year about Niall wanting to create solo music, we learned that he actually penned his debut single ‘This Town’ more than half a year ago.

  1. He finds writing and recording to be “relaxing and soothing.”

It sounds like for Niall, the creative process behind making new music is cathartic.

Namely “flavorsome” sushi.

  1. His favorite dog breed is the King Charles spaniel.

He likes calm and docile dogs that don’t jump up and down and act crazy.

  1. He still gets nervous when he performs.

Especially on live TV versus his own gigs, because the whole world can be watching.

  1. He likes ‘Treat You Better’, ‘Shout Out to My Ex’, and ‘Closer’.

And a few Justin Bieber songs.

  1. The first song he learned how to play on the guitar was ‘Wonderwall’.

Just like everyone else. “Easy chords, good tune.”

  1. A lot of his musical inspiration comes from Bob Dylan, the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, David Gray, and the Lumineers.

He likes the way that they write and compose songs.

Jamie helped him write ‘This Town’, and Amy worked with Ed Sheeran on ‘Thinking Out Loud’.

  1. He wears trainers in the summer and boots in the winter.

Mainly white trainers (not gray).

He doesn’t like just lounging in the sun on holiday, he likes to get out and do things.

  1. He’d like to sing a duet with Stevie Nicks or Frank Sinatra.

But he might be too nervous to perform with Stevie.

Lots of acoustic guitar, too.

  1. He’s never been to the Peak District in Derbyshire and would like to go.

He’s obviously been to many cities but hasn’t gotten to really see a lot of them outside of a hotel room.

He’s used to being with them everyday touring and doing promo, but they do keep up with each other now that they’re apart.

  1. He loves playing big venues like stadiums.

Making a large number of people happy like that is the best feeling in the world to him.

  1. There won’t be a music video for ‘This Town’.

But they’re already looking for directors for his next single’s video.

  1. He tries not to overthink when he’s writing songs.

If he “delves too deep” while writing, he finds putting the words together too difficult.

  1. They got stuck on writing the very first line for ‘This Town’.

But the rest of it came together pretty naturally.

  1. He wants to learn how to play the banjo.

His security guard Basil bought him a one, but he just needs to take the time to learn it.

  1. No one in particular inspires him to write songs.

He finds moments and stories to be more inspirational.

  1. He watches TV while playing the guitar all the time.

Beginner guitars should want to do it, practice like crazy, and be patient.

  1. ‘Don’t Forget Where You Belong’ is still one of the songs he’s most proud of.

He knows it was a fan favorite based on their reaction every time One Direction played it live.

  1. He thinks Halsey’s voice is incredible.

And that it would be great to work with her one day.

  1. He talked to Shawn Mendes at the BBC Radio1 Teen Awards.

They’re looking for a time to sit down and write music together once Shawn’s not touring.
