Maggie Rogers releases live performance for Different Kind of World

Get a glimpse of Maggie Rogers's friend group in her new music video

Yesterday, Maggie Rogers surprised fans by dropping a live performance of “Different Kind of World”, the last song from her most recent album, Surrender.

The video was filmed in Paris through Blogothèque and directed by Hugo Jouxtel. The video starts with Rogers conversing with her friends at a dinner table. After a bit, she grabs her guitar to perform a song for everyone.

In the video, Rogers says, “It’s like an end-of-dinner prayer. On the recording, there’s all this noise. So, everyone can do their own version of that.” She then explains that while she is singing, her friends can tap on the table or do whatever they want while explaining the vocal notes as a call-and-response. In the end, it pays off because her friends join in with some soft backing vocals which are very fitting for this uplifting song.

In talking about the song with NME, Rogers said “I feel like thinking about the state of the world has always been a part of my record process. It’s because I am a part of the world. I don’t know how you go through the pandemic, or the election, or the amount of social change the last couple of years, and not have it be a part of what you’re thinking in some way.”

Watch the beautiful live performance below.
