Today (March 1), Liam Payne dropped his latest single, “Teardrops” — an emotionally-charged song “born from many tears, not all mine,” he described on social media.
Co-written by Liam and Daniel Bryer, Jamie Scott (longtime One Direction collaborator), Mike Needle, and NSYNC’s own JC Chasez, “Teardrops” is “about the vulnerability of heartbreak and the challenge of overcoming those moments,” Liam said in a statement. “This song marks the start of a new beginning, there’s lots more to come in 2024.”
Is this the start of a new musical era for Liam? It’s his first new music since “Sunshine” for the Ron’s Gone Wrong movie soundtrack in 2021. His only true solo album to date is 2019’s LP1. “Teardrops” feels deeper — musically and lyrically — than his previous hit singles like “Strip That Down” and “Bedroom Floor.”
Liam’s former One Direction bandmate Louis Tomlinson took to X to encourage his 35+ million followers to stream “Teardrops” on Apple Music. “Liam’s new single is out today!!” he shared. “Go have a listen,” to which Liam replied, “Thank you bro,” with a red heart emoji.
