Fans are here for the savage lyrics

Little Mix have officially made our Friday by dropping the second single from their upcoming album Confetti. Celebrating the release on Twitter, they announced “This is just the first taste of what we’ve got coming… hope you’re ready for more.”

The song, aptly titled ‘Not a Pop Song’, appears to hint at a new direction that their music is taking. “No more singing songs ‘bout breaking my heart / and my lonely nights dancing in the dark”. It’s a new sound for the girls (although it’s still very much a bop) and the biggest takeaway is how free and happier they seem for it.

The song talks about breaking free from unrealistic expectations and we’re loving how savage it is. Fans think part of the song takes aim at Simon Cowell, with “I don’t do what Simon says” referring to the band’s departure from his record label. Lyrics like “Be a puppet on a string” and “A hamster on a wheel” shed light on how they felt held back.

Little Mix are set to release their sixth studio album (the first under their new record label RCA) next month and if this is setting the tone, we can’t wait for what the queens have in store for us.

Confetti will be released on 6th November 2020.
