Happy Chromatica-versary to the Lady Gaga album

Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show-stopping...

Lady Gaga’s sixth studio album, Chromatica, is one year old today. After taking a 180 degree turn from singing acoustic ballads and winning Academy Awards, she tapped back into her synth-pop roots and gave us an album all about healing from our pasts and finding happiness.

After confirming that LG6 was in the works over a year before the album was released, there was high anticipation for Lady Gaga’s next era. Chromatica debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and in the U.K., and received 2 GRAMMY nominations: Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, winning the latter for “Rain On Me” with Ariana Grande. The album also featured collaborations with Blackpink and Elton John.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic upended most of the promotion for Chromatica, it was still an incredible year for Lady Gaga. She won the first MTV Tricon Award at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards, and performed a medley of “Chromatica II,” “911,” “Rain On Me,” and “Stupid Love.” Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande created short skit videos in partnership with The Weather Channel to promote “Rain On Me.” She even partnered with Oreo and released the limited edition pink and green Chromatica Oreos in December.

The Chromatica era is far from over however; The Chromatica Ball was postponed to this summer, so we’ll see Gaga in her cyperpunk-chic looks in Paris, London, Canada, and the U.S. on tour. There also may or may not be a “Sour Candy” music video on the way with Blackpink! Lady Gaga’s Chromatica collaborator, BloodPop, also revealed that a remix album is in the pipeline, and will feature a “911” remix with Charli XCX and a collaboration with Rina Sawayama. A special edition yellow vinyl of the album will also be released for Record Store Day.

Happy one year anniversary to one of Lady Gaga’s greatest and most vulnerable works. It has us all itching to get into the club for a Chromatica night, but it also helped us feel less alone in a year of solitude.
