K-Pop is a growing genre, but one boy band that’s winning over the western side of the world is BTS. But who even are they?
BTS (who are also known as ‘Bangtan Boys’) is a seven piece boyband from South Korea who debuted in 2013 through Big Hit Entertainment.
Their hip-hop/R&B infused music is full of socially-conscious messages on mental health and bullying and is what contributed to helping them gain 6.1 million followers on Twitter. They’ve released quite a lot of music over the past four years, which includes a number of EPs, two Japanese albums and three Korean albums. But don’t expect an English album anytime soon, though, as the boys plan to stay focused on their K-Pop success. That doesn’t mean they won’t be touring other countries, though and have recently performed sold out shows in LA, Chicago and NYC.
One of their biggest accomplishments in the U.S was earlier this year when they accepted the award for ‘Top Social Artist’ at the Billboard Awards, where they beat Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande and Shawn Mendes.

Jin

Suga
Suga’s real name is Min Yoongi and he was born on 9th March 1994. He’s from Daegu, South Korea and likes to take pictures.
J-Hope
Jung Hoseok AKA J-Hope was born 18th February 1994 and comes from Gwangju, South Korea. His favourite season ins Spring and hates working out.
Rap Monster
Rap Monster’s real name is Kim Nam Joon. He was born 12th September 1994 and comes from Seoul, South Korea. His favourite number is 1 and used to dream about being a security guard.
Jimin
Park Jimin was born 13th October 1995. His hometown is Busan, South Korea and his role model is Chris Brown.
V
Kim Taehyung AKA V was born on 30th December 1995 and comes from Daegu, South Korea. His nickname is TaeTae and his favourite food is Japchae.
Jungkook
Jeon Jungkook was born 1st September 1997 and comes from Busan, South Korea. In 10 years he wants to own a duck meat restaurant.
So in answer to ‘Who are BTS?’ They’re your new favourite K-Pop boyband.
