Since 2016 BLACKPINK has become a global girl group sensation. One proof of that is their memorable performance at Coachella, which made America fall in love with them. They gained popularity from EPs and singles, so it is not a surprise that their first full album was filled with expectations.
BLACKPINK’s album is more than what we expected. The tracks on it are fun, flirty, and laid back grooves. It fully embodies the group’s personality and encapsulating that feeling of being sexy, confident, and enthusiastic. There is no doubt why everyone in the Western music world wants to collab with them and making a hit like Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez, Dua Lipa, or Cardi B.
In their Netflix documentary, they show us the human face of K-Pop and share their experiences as trainees to becoming one of the most successful and globally acclaimed girl group.
The documentary is full of emotions, and they show their fans how every day they are trying to improve themselves and set themselves as the new blueprint for newer girl groups. Each one of the members – Liso, Jennie, Rosé, and Jisoo – had to give something up to achieve success and work for who they are and have today. Light Up the Sky gives us a perspective inside of the music industry and the training that goes before doing a debut. We get behind the scenes footage of rehearsals, but most important; their audition tapes.
For the group, girls supporting girls should not only be only a phrase but a vital part of our reality. More than them just being bandmates, they are a sisterhood which many, including myself, admire. Each one of them has had to overcome obstacles, but they had each other to hold them back, teach different skills, and even overcome language barriers.
The girls were always adventurous, creative, and look at the future with clarity and hope. As Lisa says in Light Up the Sky: “It doesn’t matter if we get old and get replaced by the younger generation, as long as there is still someone talking about us, because they will still remember how we shone so bright.”

The four of them are beautiful, talented, and smart women who are changing the music one song at a time. Their music videos are always a serve with a side of fashion extravaganza. The girls have been able to express themselves through fashion, and making statements lead them to be trendsetters and ambassadors for brands such as Chanel, Dior, Celine, and Yves Saint Laurent.
The relationship between them and the Blinks is one of a kind. These girls are not stopping anytime soon, so the world better be ready for BLACKPINK’s domination. All we can do now is listen to their album non-stop and enjoy their vlogs.
