10 TV shows that shouldn’t have been cancelled
If you’re a TV geek like me, then you must love and dread May sweeps. The finales of all our fave shows air which leave us feeling all different emotions. But there’s also that fear of renewals and cancellations. There’s nothing worse than a show ending with a great cliffhanger and not knowing whether it’s been picked up for another season.
So which shows are cancelled way too early?
1. AGENT CARTER
I was so devastated when ABC cancelled this. We need way more shows about powerful women (especially in the superhero world) and Agent Carter was perfect. However, the ratings didn’t make the cut. R.I.P. Carter.
2. VERONICA MARS
If you’re a fan of mystery and drama, then this would’ve been perfect for you. Lasting three seasons, ‘Veronica Mars’ was cancelled and just disappeared from the CW’s schedule. Luckily, a movie of the same name was produced which garners some closer but I still miss it.
3. GHOST WHISPERER
This used to be one of my favourite shows until it’s cancellation back in 2010. I think we all knew why. The show definitely jumped the shark back in season 4 and the writers tried to correct their mistake but it didn’t really pan out. The ratings declined and for a show that was about unfinished business, ‘Ghost Whisperer’ never got the ending it deserved.
The show from Joss Whedon that got cancelled after only 11 episodes. Despite its cancellation, the fanbase never left and the franchise has expanded to other media. ‘Firefly’ was definitely cancelled way too soon.
I really miss ‘Torchwood’. A series that should’ve lasted for many more years got cut short. However it was never officially cancelled, just on an “indefinite hiatus”, so there may be hope yet. We want more John Barrowman.
6. WITCHES OF EAST END
There were all these shows about vampires and werewolves. So where were the witches? Finally, our wishes were answered and we were given ‘Witches of East End’. However, once again a decline in the ratings for season 2 prompted Lifetime to cancel it. God damn.
Oh look at that, another show cancelled due to poor ratings. I feel like supernatural-type shows never do as well because the viewership isn’t there. Yes, there’s a dedicated fan base but even they aren’t enough to keep a show on the air (unless it’s ‘Supernatural’). Constantine, you will be missed.
Joss Whedon didn’t have much luck with shows after ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ and ‘Angel’ ended. ‘Dollhouse’ was a show that was original, different and ended way too soon. After only two seasons, it just wasn’t meant to be.
9. THE IT CROWD
One of the funniest British comedies I’ve watched in the last decade. You can’t beat British humour. I wish it didn’t end at season 4, I need at least 10 seasons (like ‘F.R.I.E.N.D.S’). I miss it so much.
I absolutely loved ‘Fringe’ because of how different it was. Parallel universes, doppelgängers, and amazing plot twists, it’s a shame it only lasted five seasons. It had so much more life left in it. However, I’ll take what I can get.
There are a few shows still airing which should ended a while ago and there’s the list above that needed more. If there’s a parallel universe out there, maybe these shows would’ve had more time.
