No Skips, Just Hits: Inside P1Harmony’s 8th mini album DUH!

With their 8th mini album DUH!P1Harmony makes a daring statement that feels like a bold reset as well as a winning lap. Giving amazing energy with vitality self-assurance and adaptability the six-track piece is a bew blend of maximalist pop-rap from the early 2000s, K-pop accuracy and the groups distinct style. With the creative fingerprints of JIUNG, INTAK, and JONGSEOB on the pen and KEEHO, JIUNG, and JONGSEOB in the studio booth the record showcases with each members unique musical strengths.

“DUH!” is the title track and it doesn’t waste any time getting started with commanding hooks, vintage drums, and catchy tunes. It’s sharp, lighthearted, and incredibly catchy. It is the ideal opening that sets the albums unique tone. The song which displays vocal skill, and a tight rap delivery with effortless charisma is a flex in every way. By switching from something energetic, to a more relaxed flowing groove, “Pretty Boy” maintains it’s earworm appeal. Drums reminiscent of reggaeton and relaxed vocals make it a smooth breather without sacrificing intensity. The songs themes of individualism and self-assurance are genuine providing a lyrical maturity that underpins the amazing production.

Then following up with something more funky, which is provided by “Murmur”, the 3rd song on the album. It’s catchy in a different way, essentially telling off the doubters with flair. It’s rooted in 90s-style RnB, featuring bold brass and forceful rhymes. It has an edge due to its vintage hip-hop beat, but what really sets it apart from the rest of the album is its catchy delivery.

The group channels the festival-ready energy that is characterised by the early 2010s, as they dive headfirst into EDM territory on “Flashy”. This is unquestionably a party song thanks to its dance floor beat and ripping guitar intro. This is another instance in which the groups energy is evident as they trade verses like a well-oiled machine while still having a great time. Then “Over and Over” comes up, which is possibly the best song on the album. With its hip-hop groove and catchy saxophone, it exudes grit and coolness. A confident yet unforced side of P1Harmony is displayed in the chorus which is demonstrates their coolness. It’s a showcase for musical maturity and the kind of song that stays with you.

“Work” whih is a hyper-pop/trap anthem closes out the album. It got bold verses that resembles a last lap around the last track, the song is supported by catchy beats and glitchy synths, showcasing JONGSEOB’s production skills. It’s a powerful ending that defines DUH! as a thrilling replay-worthy project.

If anything, DUH! demonstrates that P1Harmony is not only adaptable but also refreshing. Every sound they work with is their own, whether its funk reggaeton, EDM, or something else entirely. Their group cohesiveness is stronger than ever and their success feels earned.
