Jonah Marais is making the world a better place with his music. As a former bandmate of the boy band, Why Don’t We, Jonah has been through the good and bad times. Last week, he did something that the Why Don’t We version of him never thought he could do: release his 2nd solo EP, More Than Enough.
Each of the five tracks resembles an experience that he has overcome. From focusing on resilience, free styling, rapping, and collaborating, Jonah’s only going up in the music industry from here.
The leading track “Better Place” was released at the end of March, alongside a video featuring Jonah’s girlfriend. It is a song for anyone hurting, struggling, or holding onto their past too long. Jonah wants his fans to know that he’s there for them and wishes he could heal their traumas. Despite its early release, it has been a fan favorite on the EP. If you listen closely, you can hear the New York City and Minnesota Choir featured in the credits as background vocals.
In Jonah’s fall 2024, he sang “Miracle Fruit” for fans. This is the third track on the EP and if you listen from top to bottom, it makes sense why he put it here. Instrumentally, it is a song that experiments with a loud backdrop that belongs in a summer party playlist. Compared to “Better Place,” which is only loud because of the choir feature. Lyrically, it is a song about having some sour parts of a relationship leading up to some sweet parts. Contextually, without Jonah’s interpretation, a miracle fruit is a berry that causes sour foods to taste sweet when bitten into.
In this new chapter for Marais, he is happier without the lawsuit in front of him. His girlfriend is a musician who sometimes pops up at shows to make an appearance or in his music videos. He has left L.A.’s past trauma behind and is starting fresh in another music hub, Nashville, TN. And he is a family man who never leaves anyone behind, not even his Why Don’t We brothers. 2025 is Jonah’s year, and his fans are along for the ride with him.
