NCT are back with a new group project and a bigger lineup since the release of their 2018 album “Empathy”. Over the past two years, we’ve witnessed the debut of WayV (Chinese subunit) and the addition of two new members, Shotaro and Sungchan. This year, with an expanded lineup formed by 23 members, the group is back with NCT 2020 “NCT RESONANCE Pt. 1” and the single “Make A Wish (Birthday Song)” from the subunit NCT U.
In case you’ve missed it, the 23-member group combines different subunits: NCY 127, NCT U, NCT Dream, WayV and the two new members Shotaro and Sungchan. “NCT RESONANCE Pt. 1” has a lot to offer while mixing the guys into various and experimental subunits.
This NCT U subunit is formed by Taeyong, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Jaemin, Lucas, Xiaojun and Shotaro. The song is unlike any other NCT U song but at the same time follows the NCT pattern: experimental hip hop beat extremely catchy. The song has been described as a dance-pop track with a hip hop beat and an addicting whistling sound, and this is a sentence that you can hear clearly in the track and all the elements are well balanced together. The members serve great vocals and raps throughout the whole song, still in an expected way that adds a unique style to the track making it even more appealing.
The track is accompanied by a visually sultry music video, with the members swinging precariously on chandeliers and disappearing in flames. The visuals have a Middle Eastern flair, with patterns, arches and solid colours referencing it. The unit delivers a powerful dance routine, in their lavish outfits. From dancing in a room full of carpets or marble surfaces to holograms appearing and disappearing, NCT U are once again giving it their all.
