Leah Kate is capturing the attention of countless listeners across the world with her relatable and undeniably catchy new singles. Her first release of this year, “Bad Idea,” follows her 2019 EP, Impulse, and was shared with fans back in May. Currently, Kate is gearing up to continue releasing new music throughout 2020 and fans are beyond excited. In an exclusive interview with Leah Kate, the “Bad Idea” singer opens up about her latest singles, collaborations and more.

What can you tell us about your single “Bad Idea” and the inspiration behind it?

This song was inspired by my instinct, knowing that I should not pursue a love interest because it would probably end terribly. It was important for me to release this track because it not only speaks volumes about how you should follow your gut feeling and just trust your intuition. I love to opinion-shop, but sometimes you just have to look within to know what’s right. Although I knew this was a bad idea, bad ideas can be fun at times and sometimes risks are worth taking!

How was it to make the music video creatively since you could not film a new one because of COVID-19? Did you have a vision in mind for the track if things were different?

Since I’m an independent artist, my budget was small for video content. However, I really had to make it work on my own by shooting it at my house. I actually did this on my phone. It was definitely really difficult at first, but I taught myself a lot about editing and love how it turned out in the end!

During the current global pandemic, what artists or bands have you found yourself listening to?

Dua Lipa, Tame Impala, Clairo, Charlotte Lawrence and Jeremy Zucker.

I know you have already worked with some big names in the studio! Do you have a dream collaboration, either writing or singing, that has yet to happen?

I would love to do a collab with Dua Lipa.

What else can fans look forward to in the near or distant future?

There are some amazing and fun singles coming out in the next couple of months. I hope they bring you some love and happiness during this absolutely crazy time!

And lastly, what can you tell us about your brand new single “fuck up the friendship” and its overall message?

It’s basically part two of “Bad Idea,” where I say fuck it… let’s pursue this even if everyone and everything is pointing to staying away. The video was also made by me in quarantine!
