Black Swan is BTS’s most personal and intricate masterpiece

Here's some the song's performances that took my breath away.

For BTS the Map Of The Soul: Persona era was all about sending a message of love for those who had been listening to their music for so long. Tracks such as ‘Boy With Luv’ featuring Halsey showed the band’s bright side as they sing about the little joys in life that bring us strength and true love. ‘Mikrokosmos’ is another inspiring track that tells people that the light they’ve been looking for lives inside them and not in the things that surround us. Ed Sheeran co-wrote ‘Make It Right’, a soft R&B love song that’s all about comfort that can be found in BTS.

Then it was time for the band to show another side of their talents and speak about their fears and inner shadows. BTS was now looking deep inside themselves and reliving not so pleasant moments in their 7-year career to write songs for their album. The Map Of The Soul: 7  era started with ‘Black Swan’ on January 17th last year. The track was written by RM, August Rigo, Vince Nantes and Pdogg, who also produced the track.

‘Black Swan’ is a raw and emotional confession of an artist who can finally see the real meaning behind the music for themselves and then face their greatest fear: the possibility of losing all the passion for their own music. It feels like being haunted by this fear and not knowing how to not let it overpower you.  The heavy beats with BTS’s strong rap and vocals create a dark atmosphere that can be felt as you listen to the track.

Unfortunately, BTS didn’t have many opportunities to perform it in front of an audience before the pandemic but be it with a live or an online audience, BTS ensured to deliver their best for such an important personal tune.

The debut performance of ‘Black Swan’ happened on The Late Late Show with James Corden stage where the singers appeared with all black outfits and barefoot performing a complex and amazing choreography as in the back the images portrayed a dark lake.

During BTS Week on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon the group delivered another stunning performance of the song but now the stage created by BTS’s team was a lot different from the dark lake and it resembled the theater they filmed the movie video, however, the place seemed to be in ruins.

Proving that they can create an entirely new aura to their performances, BTS prepared a renewed stage for SBS 2020 K-Pop Awards, they performed as a six-piece due to Suga’s recent shoulder surgery.

The most breathtaking performance of ‘Black Swan’ was definitely the one they used as an intro to the 2020 Melon Music Awards. The whole mood while the instrumental version of the song plays. Jungkook and Jimin’s pas de deux left fans and non-fans speechless. Each member and their powerful moves turned the performance and this beautiful story where each of them become the black swan. Suga wasn’t able to be part of this performance either, but we caught him on Weverse commenting the show with ARMY.

‘Black Swan’ is BTS’s greatest masterpiece on our playlists and on stage.
