Jennifer Lynn Barnes became a household name with The Inheritance Games, but did you notice that more and more of her books are popping up at bookstores these days? No, she’s not writing 5 books per year — publishers are reprinting her older titles. We were confused for a while, so we decided to write this handy guide to answer all your questions about her books.

 

The Inheritance Games 

Is it a series? Yes, there are a total of 4 books — The Inheritance Game, The Hawthorne Legacy, The Final Gambit and The Brothers Hawthorne. 

When was it originally published? 2020

What genre is it? Mystery thriller

Can we get it in the UK now? Yes, the whole series is out now, but you might want to wait because Penguin is publishing a gorgeous special edition. The first one is out now, with The Hawthorne Legacy out in January 2026, and The Final Gambit out in March 2026.

 

The Grandest Game

Is it a series? Yes. There are two books out currently, The Grandest Games and Glorious Rivals. The final book, The Gilded Blade, will be out in July 2026. This series is a spin-off to The Inheritance Games.

When was it originally published? 2024

What genre is it? Mystery thriller

Can we get it in the UK now? Yes, but only the first 2 books for now.

Do we recommend it? Yes! We binge read the whole series in one go. We might even say we like The Naturals more than The Inheritance Games. Following teen FBI recruits who have natural talents in profiling, detecting lies, and reading emotions, this series would be a must for Criminal Minds lovers. We feel like Jennifer Lynn Barnes’ background as a psychology professor definitely shines through in this series. The mysteries are intense, and the plot twists are wild. We definitely love the found family vibes here too.

 

 At First Sight

Is it a series? No

When was it originally published? 2013

What genre is it? Science fiction / dystopian

Can we get it in the UK now? Hachette UK published the book with the new cover in 2025.

Do we recommend it? Definitely! This book explores the world where some people are Nobodies, and some people are Nulls. Nobodies are generally ignored by the world, but it means they can go undetected and make great assassins. Nulls on the other hand are great at persuading others, and thus make dangerous people. We love this concept since there are definitely Nulls- and Nobodies-like people in the world. We just wish this is a series though! The romance in the book is also one of the purest, cutest ones we have ever read about.

 

Raised by Wolves 

Is it a series? Yes, there are a total of 3 books — Raised by Wolves, Trial by Fire, and Taken by Storm 

When was it originally published? 2010

What genre is it? Urban fantasy

Can we get it in the UK now? Hachette UK published the books with new covers in 2024.

 

The Fixer 

Is it a series? Yes, there are a total of 2 books — The Ruling Class and Lessons in Power. They were originally called The Fixer and The Long Game.

When was it originally published? 2015

What genre is it? Mystery thriller

Can we get it in the UK now? Penguin UK is publishing the whole series with new titles and these new covers in September 2025.  Stay tuned!

 

Debutantes 

Is it a series? Yes, there are a total of 2 books — Little White Lies and Deadly Little Scandals

Do we recommend it? Yes? This book follows Sawyer who is offered a six-figure contract by her estranged grandmother to participate in debutante season, and potentially figure out who her father is. Don’t get us wrong — this duology is full of southern charm, and scandalous secrets, and we definitely enjoyed all the twists and turns, but it feels slightly similar to The Inheritance Games. So if you can’t read all Jennifer Lynn Barnes’ books, we would suggest to you read other ones first!

 

The Squad

Is it a series? Yes, there are a total of 2 books — Perfect Cover and Killer Spirit

The Lovely and the Lost

Do we recommend it?Yes! The book follows Kira, who was once found alone in the woods with no memory of what happened to her. She later grows up in a family that trains canines for search and rescue, and eventually finds herself joining the mission to find a missing child. We really enjoyed reading about how dogs are trained and used in real-life rescue efforts! The bond between the characters and their dogs was especially heartwarming. If you love survival stories, missing person cases, and loyal canine companions, this is one to pick up.

 

Every Other Day 

Is it a series? No

When was it originally published? 2011

What genre is it? Urban fantasy / paranormal

Do we recommend it? Yes! Every Other Day follows a girl who is a supernatural creature every other day. What really sets this book apart is its fresh take on the monster-hunting genre, blending action-packed suspense with the mysterious world of secret organizations conducting morally ambiguous scientific experiments. Though it’s not strictly dark academia, fans of that vibe will appreciate the undercurrent of hidden knowledge, and clandestine research facilities.
