United by Pop have this exclusive extract from the book which showcases the beginning of the downfall of queen bee Chiamaka Adebayo. I’ve always found the downfall of the mean girl to be an interesting trope and I wanted to explore this in Ace of Spades. This extract also deals with the subtle criminalisation of Black teenagers, how we are almost never given the same benefit of the doubt that our white counterparts are afforded.
