Aston Merrygold chats to us following his new release How Many Times
We caught up with Aston Merrygold to talk all things solo music and what he has planned for the rest of the year.
Aston Merrygold has released his first single, ‘How Many Times’, since last summer. The song sets the tone for summer and promises to be a huge hit for the JLS superstar.
‘How Many Times’ is the most perfect summer anthem for 2022. Mostly bass-heavy, it is 100% set to be a fan favourite.
I caught up with Aston to chat about the new single and to see what he has in store for the rest of 2022. I can promise you this year is looking an exciting year for him and his fans!
Hi, Aston! This is your first solo release since last summer. Were you excited or nervous about releasing ‘How Many Times’?
So excited but I think both bleed into one! The nerves of releasing is a build up of all the excitement and hard work being put into this new record!
How would you describe ‘How Many Times’? Is it similar to the music you’ve released previously?
Yes and no… I think it’s a great mix of the best I’ve done but also showing a new side to my voice. The song lends itself to being anthemic during the verses but takes a turn with a heavy drop for the chorus. Something we can all sing out loud and spread our arms out wide to but then jump and wild on the chorus!
There’s been a hugely positive reaction from your fans online when you announced the single. Is this something you always experienced with your fans?
Honestly I have the most supportive and best fans in the world! They really ride or die when it comes to anything I do but especially music!
You’ve also just recently launched your very own podcast (which is great btw!), Pizza and Tequila. How did this come about? Is it something you’ve always wanted to do?
It’s not something I always wanted to do but it’s turning out to be a lot more fun than I first thought. It came about in a really random way with me hearing a quote and thinking why not try it, me and my friends have some weird convos… why not do that with a mic, pizza and tequila.
What are the future plans for Pizza and Tequila?
Future plans are getting as many guests on to join in the madness as possible. We’ve had some really great people on so far so those eps will be out soon!
You’re keeping super busy because you’re also going to be starring in the Footloose musical over the summer! How do you feel about taking on the role of Willard?
I’m really excited to jump into this character! It’s a role that definitely will take some time to get right but I’m so excited for the challenge!
In between your solo music, you’ve released some more music with JLS and been back on tour with the band. How did it feel being back together with Oritsé, JB and Marvin?
It was nostalgic to say the least! Honestly, I was blown by the love from everybody that came to the shows, signings and showed love!
What can your fans expect from you for the rest of the year? Is there going to be new music or possibly a tour?
Music music and more music! Shows shows and more shows! This is the start of a new era and I’m so excited.
