For the first time since his debut as a member of NCT U back in 2016, global superstar TEN has made his way to the U.S. for his showcase tour. Given his decade of experience and massive international audience, his first solo run here in the states was highly anticipated and Cermak Hall at Radius in Chicago was absolutely packed. The barricade was illuminated with lightsticks from every idol group TEN has ever been a part of; it served as a visual reminder of just how much time and effort it took to make this night happen. He’s had the star power and skills since his debut, but now he has the chance to shine in front of his longtime supporters in the states with a solid catalog of excellent music. TEN’s career as a member of groups like WayV, NCT U, and SuperM is what captivated so many people in the first place, but his work as a soloist is truly jaw-dropping and this show is something listeners have been dreaming of for years now.

The evening kicked off with two of his most popular hits “STUNNER” and “Nightwalker”. Both are quintessential tracks in his catalogue, but the choreography that accompanies them allows him to prove his reputation as one of the best dancers to ever set foot on stage. His movements are fluid, precise, and he truly embodies his art. A small group of dancers accompanied him throughout the night, lending their powerful moves and upbeat demeanor to the stage to bring the stage to life even more.

Fans came fully prepared to provide background vocals for the artist, as well. It was clear that the vast majority of this crowd was more than familiar with his music, TEN even made a point to mention how well they were singing along to “Water” (and later teased them for not knowing the words to a different song). From the front to the back people were belting out every note, but nothing could drown out TEN’s siren-like vocals. Performances where his singing was more of a prominent focus, such as “New Heroes” or even “Birthday”, had everyone captivated by the sound of his voice. As the night came to an end, he thanked everyone for patiently waiting for him, and promising to return with more music. A typical line in a closing monologue for these kinds of tours, but it felt a little more touching given the circumstances and how hard TEN has worked for this.

TEN is truly mesmerizing; there is an ethereal quality to the way he sings and dances, and he’s effortlessly charming in the way he tells stories and interacts with his fanbase. Earlier this year, he co-founded the company ILLIMNT following his departure from SM Entertainment. This sent his solo career full-speed into a new era that feels wildly different in the best way possible. He’s already released a new single (OUTWEST), completed a U.S. tour, and will soon be performing the final dates of his 10th anniversary concert TEN: CORE0110. For the past decade, people have only been able to get occasional glimpses into TEN’s individual artistry. This show was a recollection of those rare moments, as well as a celebration of newfound freedom and future possibilities. It feels like the long wait is finally over, and this showcase was just a taste of what’s to come.
