Jeon Jungkook, the golden maknae of BTS, is turning 28 this 1st of September and what a better way to celebrate him than to have a quick trip to the past and reminisce his best covers. The BTS member who has the voice of gold has shared his versions of other artists’ songs with the world since the beginning of his career, going through Korean to western singers and making their music his own with his infinite talent.
We handpicked 8 of our favorites songs covered by Jungkook and are excited to know your which one is your personal favorite in this list. Vote at the end!
1. Falling (original song by Harry Styles)
Without a doubt a personal favorite from both of them. I mean, better than that just a duet of this song with Jungkook and Harry. Also, flashbacks of that Harry concert in Los Angeles, which the BTS members attended and we got Jungkook, Taehyung, Jimin and Jhope singing this song with their whole heart. (note from the author: I absolutely love when my directioner and army worlds connect)
2. Lost Stars (original song by Adam Levine from Begin Again)
Also another personal favorite from the author, and let me tell you why. This song played back in June when this author was on trip to Busan, aka JK’s hometown, on a boat in the middle of the sea when this cover started playing – I had just seen Jhope’s concerts where Jungkook also came on stage – so this cover definitely hit something inside and I couldn’t hold back the tears. So yeah, this one has a place in my heart.
3. FOOLS (original song by Troye Sivan)
I mean, this song is already beautiful, then in Jungkook’s voice it takes you to heaven. I love how he makes it his own and it shows so much of his vocal range. Also, Namjoon’s ‘mono voice’ is the cherry on the top.
4. 10000 Hours (original song By Dan + Shay & Justin Bieber)
When this cover dropped I was a baby army, so it brings a lot of great memories from the beginning of my journey with BTS. The lyrics are so endearing and the fact that it was published on SoundCloud with the “1000 hours with army” made it even more precious. So definitely a favorite from this author.
5. We Don’t Talk Anymore (original song by Charlie Puth and Selena Gomez)
Do you have a song that you prefer that one cover over the original version? So, this one is it! Nothing against the original singers, I’m just a person who loves everything more when in Jungkook’s voice. Also, if you haven’t checked it yet, there’s a version of this song in JK’s and Jimin’s voices!
6. Nothing Like Us (original song by Justin Bieber)
We all know Jungkook is a big Justin Bieber fanboy, he’s covered plenty of song by JB, but honestly, this one is a favorite. The rawness in his voice had us asking “who hurt you?”, so without a doubt it deserves its place in this list.
7. SOFA (original song by Crush)
I’ll be completely honest with you and say that I’ve just discovered this cover while searching for the ones I wanted for this list. It also hit me that this cover was published in 2014, so I imagined a fetus JK singing so wholeheartedly in the very beginning of his career and I had to put it in this list. If you, like me, didn’t know this one, make sure to give it a listen, totally worth it.
8. Let The Be Love (original song by Oasis)
Since I put a cover from the very beginning of his career, I decided to add a more recent one so we can witness together Jungkook’s evolution as an artist with our ears. I did expect a different song that day, but as usual, everything he touches turns gold, this cover wouldn’t be any different.
This is a very humble list, if you know Jungkook you know he breathes music so he’s also singing on his lives in Weverse. Thanks universe for all the long karaoke lives with Jungkook through the years. We’re also grateful for his presence in this world, because when it gets heavy, his voice can be the comfort we all turn to.
Happy birthday, Jungkook! May the world know your talent and your golden heart!
