It’s hard to believe that it’s been two full years since Billie Eilish released her debut album, WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? , to the world.

The lead-up to the release had Billie dropping several singles from her album for fans to hear. Songs like “You Should See Me in a Crown,” “When the Party’s Over,” “Bury a Friend,” and “Wish You Were Gay” caught everyone’s attention not only for their infectious sound but also because of their hauntingly beautiful and honest lyrics.

Then, in March of 2019, Billie’s debut album WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?  finally arrived, and music fans everywhere watched as she climbed the charts. Metacritic, known for rating their reviews out of 100, gave the album a score of 82 from 21 critics.

With the release of her debut album, Billie made the second track “Bad Guy” her next single. Reaching commercial success, the song went No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Her final singles from this album, “All the Good Girls Go to Hell” and “ilomilo,” went on to receive praise as well.

WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? touches on themes such as mental health, drug addiction, heartbreak, and more — and is done not only delicately but also effortlessly. It’s no wonder why it went on to win many awards at the 2020 GRAMMYs — especially with “Bad Guy” winning Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

Even though it’s been two years since its release, Billie’s debut album went on to show that music created and produced in one’s own childhood bedroom can be the next big thing. Most of all, Billie showed everyone that individuality and creativity are key when paving your way through the music world because she created a sound all her own that had many falling in love.
