Brad Simpson is most well-known as the lead singer from the popular band, The Vamps. The Birmingham-born singer has done his fair share of livestream performances while the UK has been in lockdown, so it was no surprise when it was announced that he would be performing for Birmingham’s Women and Children Hospital in the ‘Big Gig’ on 13th June. Other performers for the livestream gig included Beverley Knight, Casey Bailey and Joel Baker, just to name a few.
Birmingham’s Women and Children hospital announced that they would be hosting a livestream concert with only Birmingham-based performers. To watch the concert, you had to pay £10 in support of the hospital’s Covid-19 fund so all of the money that was raised went to an incredible cause. Those who paid were sent a link via email to watch the livestream. You could constantly donate through the livestream by texting a certain number or ringing up. Brad was the headliner of the show so he was the final performer to close the livestream. It could also be argued that he was the performer that brought in the most viewers. Brad sang three of The Vamps’ songs acoustically from his home. Although his set was only just over ten minutes, he sang undoubtedly The Vamps’ three most popular songs that just about everybody knows: ‘Can We Dance’, ‘Wild Heart’ and ‘All Night’. His performance was uploaded onto Youtube after the livestream and can be watched above.
The Vamps haven’t released any new music since last April, and haven’t put on any live shows since last December. So their fans are waiting for anticipation for new music and hopefully even an autumnal tour at the end of the year.
After Brad performed, he suggested that the hospital should host an annual event similar to this one. However, hopefully, next time, it’ll be an actual gig rather than a livestream one. The gig was a great way of raising money for Birmingham’s Women and Children’s hospital and as Brad suggested, doing something similar every year would be a good idea of raising even more money for the hospital.
