In between playing major summer festivals such as Gov Ball and Lollapalooza, Wallows, the indie rock band based in Los Angeles, have been busy wrapping up their Model & More Tour. Having seen Wallows several years ago at a smaller venue, it was exciting to see them perform for an amphitheater crowd.
It was a warm summer night in Raleigh, North Carolina at The Red Hat Amphitheater and fans had been waiting in the heat in line all day. One thing about Wallows fans is that they are incredibly dedicated. One fan in the front row held a sign saying she had flown thousands of miles to be at the show. Others had traveled from across the country as well. Fans were making any attempt possible to try to catch Wallows one last time on this tour.
As Wallows walked out on stage the summer sky was fading to a dark shaded blue as nighttime fell. They started off by performing “Your Apartment” and “Anytime, Always,” songs from their latest album, Model.
Next, they played an all time crowd favorite, “Scrawny.” Wallows were moving all over the stage, playing their instruments as the stage lights flashed and fans jumped up and down, singing along. It felt nostalgic seeing Wallows perform again. Dylan, Braeden, and Cole have all grown individually and together as artists and it shows. They are not just bandmates but best friends.
Not only do they have a great chemistry on stage together, but they connect well with their fanbase. The packed setlist included fan favorites like, “These Days” and “Pleaser.” One of my favorite moments was seeing them perform “Calling After Me” live.
Wallows played a full setlist of 22 songs, closing with ‘Are You Bored Yet?’” This show and this past touring cycle have really proven for Wallows that they are well deserving of performing at bigger venues because their fans will show up.
