The 16-year-old protagonist, Noah, gets hypnotised and sees constants in his life change: his mum has a scar on her face that wasn’t there before; his dog who was dubbed ‘useless’ and walked with a limp, is suddenly full of life; his best friend, a lifelong DC Comics buff, now dabbles in the Marvel universe. Everything in his world has been rewritten – except his strange fascinations.
David Arnold’s writing style is unique and will pull you in from page one. The story is told in a way which truly appears to resemble the inner workings of a teenager’s mind, allowing readers to relate to Noah’s character. ‘Strange Fascinations’ is also peppered with modern day media references, in fact, it’ll make you want to listen to Bowie non-stop and watch your favourite episodes of Gilmore Girls straight after.
