Book publishers are finally realising that us book lovers love us some #bookporn! In the last few years, publishers have upped their game, where the aesthetics of books are concerned, and the result has been glorious. From leather-bound collector editions and minimalist naked hardback spines to fancy typography and stunning artwork, take a look at our definitive list of the top ten most beautiful books.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by C.S. Lewis

Available in the UK and the US.

When Barnes and Nobles unveiled their leather-bound editions of famed classic texts, I instantly knew they would become my newest collection… and obsession. Vibrant colours grace the covers, gold leaf edge the pages, and intricate artwork laces the interior making this the one of the most beautiful pieces I have ever seen or owned! There are tens of authors added to this collection so something can be found for every reader.

Beautiful Broken Things by Sara Barnard.

Available in the UK and (in another edition) the US.

This gorgeous mint green edition was exclusively designed by YouTuber Zoe Suggs, AKA Zoella, as part of her WH Smiths bookclub. Only available in store, this has become something of a collector’s edition and, just looking at it, you can see why! Offsetting the pastel cover is a raised metallic rainbow that really draws the eye. Be warned, though: this story will break your heart!

The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Neslon

Available from the UK and (in another edition) the US.

Another Zoella exclusive is this stunning edition of Nelson’s bestselling contemporary YA. The vividity of colour in broad sweeping brushstrokes is balanced against the stark white handwritten typography, giving this a unique look that matches the just-as-unique interior. Littered with handwritten poems, doodles and lists alongside the actual story, this book is as beautiful as it is compelling!

The Secret History and The Little Friend by Donna Tartt

Available from the UK and the US

From exuberance to minimalism. The sleek designs of Tartt’s groundbreaking fiction have a superior and sophisticated feel that perfectly represent the author.

The Ninth Life of Louis Drax by Liz Jensen

Available in the UK and the US.

Read my full review here.

This movie tie-in edition reflects the poignancy and wonderment generated by the story inside it. The beauty of nature is incomparable and the clever illusion here only serves to highlight that fact.

Legend by Marie Lu

Available in the UK and the US.

From beautiful outsides to beautiful insides. Is there anything that screams ‘buy me’ more than a mapped book? This black-and-white toned map included in Lu’s fantasy, YA trilogy is the perfect companion to the story, adding an extra layer of believability and visualisation.

Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys

Available in the UK and the US.

Although relatively simplistic, there is a grace evident in both the UK and the US editions that affirms the story inside it. The almost spartan covers portray a minimal beauty that does not detract from the harrowing and poignant story this book divulges.

The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien

Available in the UK and the US.

These timeless classics are worth the splurge. Leather-bound, embossed and neatly boxed, the detailing on these pocket-sized editions is just supreme. Definitely, one to showcase (and totally Instagram-worthy)!

The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman

Available in the UK and the US.

A bizarre cover with a bizarre title for a bizarre story. Dramatic and striking, this cover tells a story before you even open the first page. But Gaimainn does a pretty good job of telling a story for himself, too.

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

Available in the UK and the US.

This illustrated edition matches the brooding and atmospheric tone of Ness’ evocative tale perfectly. Now a major motion picture, what better time to get swept away in this fantastical tale?
