‘Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates’ is way better to watch at home

Sure, there’s something to be said about going to the theater to see a movie. The overpriced tickets, the overpriced snacks and drinks, the whole sharing-an-armrest-with-a-stranger phenomena… Maybe that “something to be said” is actually that going to the theater to see a movie is highly overrated? When it comes to certain movies, you just want to watch them on your own couch, eating your own regularly priced food, in your pajamas with your friends. ‘Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates’ is one of those movies.

First of all, if you’re anything like me, Zac Efron is best viewed, well, not in public. If you want to yell at the top of your lungs every time those sparkling eyes or rippling biceps come on screen—and you don’t want people to angrily shush you when you do—then you’ve got to be in the privacy of your own home. Trust me.

At the same time, ‘Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates’ has more than few cringeworthy scenes. The kind of scenes that make you scoff at that couple in the movie theater that brought their baby with them. The kind of scenes that make you really glad you chose to watch this movie with your friends and, oh my god, not your parents.

It’s also got that element of Girl Power that’ll make you feel really freaking good about yourself while you’re watching the movie in your sweatpants with the hole in them while eating handfuls of orange cheese puffs. Anna Kendrick and Aubrey Plaza play two characters who have trouble keeping crappy jobs, live in less-than-desirable conditions, and take full advantage of Mike (Adam Devine) and Dave (Zac Efron) when the boys try and find respectable dates for their sister’s Hawaii wedding. Yahs, girls.

So trust me, if you missed ‘Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates’ while it was in theaters, you’re actually better off. Now you’ve got the opportunity to watch this one at home, where you can 1) yell about Zac Efron, 2) not have to get secondhand embarrassment for the people who bring babies into R rated movies, and 3) feel that Girl Power in all its glory.

‘Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates’ is available now on Blu-ray and DVD.
