Shawn Mendes has had quite the year, with his single ‘Treat You Better’ reaching the top 10 charts globally and his sophomore album ‘Illuminate’ reaching the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 album chart. Now, after releasing tour dates for his highly anticipated world tour, Shawn has been featured in his most provocative photoshoot yet for L’Uomo Vogue.
In the article released October 11th, Mendes states that 3 artists helped shape the sound of his new album ‘Illuminate’ including John Mayer, Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran. This comes as no surprise as Sheeran’s producer Jake Gosling was heavily involved in the creation of Mendes’ sophomore album. Mendes’ more mature sound and stadium-sized choruses of songs such as the opening track ‘Ruin’ (my personal favourite from the record) only enhance this further.
The photoshoot shows the maturing of an 18-year-old who’s taking on the world with every step he takes forward. Shawn Mendes is showcasing both his ever maturing sound and image in a way that’s not too abrupt to startle fans or confuse them. This is the work of a pop star who clearly loves his fans and adores the life he has worked ever so hard for (this boy is ALWAYS on tour!) Also, he’s not exactly hard to look at.. have you seen him?
