Niall Horan’s latest solo single ‘Slow Hands’, which peaked at position #19 on the Billboard Hot 100, is a more upbeat funky pop tune than his debut solo single ‘This Town’. Co-written by longtime One Direction songwriter Julian Bunetta (‘Best Song Ever’, ‘Drag Me Down’, ‘Perfect’), it’s currently in its 11th week on the charts.

The track includes some interesting lyrics—”slow hands” in itself isn’t exactly a common phrase, and then there’s mention of sweat mixing with dirty laundry. In a recent interview with Billboard, Bunetta says he originally described the song to Will Bloomfield (One Direction’s former co-manager and Niall’s current rep) as “sexy and cool, about slow hands and sweat on dirty laundry.”
Boomfield explains, “The truth is it took us a moment to get our heads around ‘Slow Hands’ and to fully grasp its potential, but [Bunetta] called it immediately.”
So where did the concept of ‘Slow Hands’ come from? According to Bunetta, “We were in the studio and I had a bass on with a drum loop. We started playing these notes and it felt good. Niall was singing along, mumbling some words and it sounded like he said ‘slow hands’ at one point. We were like, ‘What’s slow hands?’ We kept on chiseling away and wound up having a good back and forth with it.”
Niall’s also mentioned the song is a reference to Don Henley’s ‘Dirty Laundry’.
There’s been nothing slow about ‘Slow Hands’s chart climbing. Niall embarks on his worldwide Flicker Sessions tour at the end of August.
