Jaehyun Shares A New Side Of His Emotions In First Solo Single Forever Only

Updated August 17

What is something that sounds good and also looks good? That would be Jaehyun’s ‘Forever Only’ music video teaser.

At the risk of sounding somewhat biased, what we can hear – and see – in the 19-second teaser is really (really) good. The teaser opens with the point of view inside the guitar letting us see Jaehyun’s hand gently pinching the guitar’s strings; the riff he creates is harmonious and addictive – a classic R&B guitar riff that perfectly matches Jaehyun’s style. Towards the end of the teaser, Jaehyun’s deep and emotional voice tickles our feelings.

Golden hues are taking over the visuals in this teaser; frames with Jaehyun and the sea are easing into each other.

During an Instagram live, Jaehyun said that it had been 5 years since he released ‘Try Again’ via SM STATION and he has grown and improved a lot since then, and as ‘Forever Only’ is a solo song he was thinking about what he should show and thought that this song would be a good start for him to show various aspects of what he has to come in the future.

When asked how he would define ‘Forever Only’, Jaehyun used the words “lonely yet charming with a catchy guitar riff”. ‘Forever Only’ has a bright feeling sound and melody but there’s loneliness inside it that is well expressed through the lyrics. Jaehyun also mentioned that while recording and singing ‘Forever Only’ he imagined doing so in front of many people as there are parts in the song that can be followed with chants and loads of adlibs to sing together.

Jaehyun will perform ‘Forever Only’ on THE NCT SHOW’s MUSIC SPACE; the live clip will be available on NCT’s YouTube Channel on August 21.

‘Forever Only’, Jaehyun’s first solo single, will be released on August 18 at 6 pm KST.

Another batch of concept images for Jaehyun‘s solo single ‘Forever Only‘ has been released today.

The first two sets of concept images follow the soft and heartwarming themes introduced with the concept images shared yesterday, August 15. This time Jaehyun is still captured in the natural light but at the beach. The black and white images are evoking the idea of timelessness and that these memories will be ‘Forever Only’.

In the next two sets, the concept images are in striking contrast with the previous images. Jaehyun is captured in the night light, showing his bold and darker side.

Forever Only’ is Jaehyun’s first solo single. According to Korean media outlets, the song is “[…] underlined by Jaehyun’s dark and emotive vocals over repeated guitar riffs. In the lyrics Jaehyun explores the contrast between loneliness and companionship, sharing his desire to be around someone. While things remain unsettled and temporary in real life, ‘Forever Only’ seeks a permanent bond that will last for eternity.”

‘Forever Only’ will be released on August 18 at 6 pm KST.

Ahead of Jaehyun‘s first solo single ‘Forever Only’ release, SM Entertainment shared the new set of – much awaited – concept images.

In these eleven heartwarming images, minimalism is key as the viewers’ attention needs to be solely on Jaehyun. Jaehyun poses in stripped-back rooms – reminding of Harry’s House album cover – under the natural light filtering through the window. Fashion is also minimal in these images; Jaehyun is wearing a white t-shirt and black denim but he makes it look effortlessly beautiful.

‘Forever Only’ has been described as an attractive R&B song. Jaehyun has participated in writing the lyrics and – according to SM Entertainment’s press release – the lyrics want to convey loneliness and the desire to be by the lover’s side forever.

‘Forever Only’ is set to be released on August 18 as part of the ongoing NCT LAB project. Jaehyun will perform ‘Forever Only’ on THE NCT SHOW’s MUSIC SPACE stage on August 21.

So far we know that ‘Forever Only’ has a combination of repeated guitar riffs and emotional vocals and is an attractive R&B song. Jaehyun has participated in writing the lyrics and – according to SM Entertainment’s press release – the lyrics want to convey loneliness and the desire to be by the lover’s side forever.

These feelings and emotions can be perceived by looking at the single cover and first image teaser. At the same time, both images are ‘very Jaehyun’ – classic, classy and in a timeless black and white for the single cover art.

On the instant messaging app Bubble, Jaehyun gave some funny spoilers for ‘Forever Only‘ by saying he is looking forward to it and will be singing and proceeding to send a photo of him playing the guitar.

Despite Jaehyun’s renowned honey-like vocals, outstanding performance skills and continuously increasing popularity, ‘Forever Only’ is his first official solo project but not the first time the singer-songwriter has been credited as a songwriter; Jaehyun has written and co-produced the unreleased song ‘Lost (I Want You To Stay) – performed for the first time during NCT 127’s “THE LINK” three days concerts in Seoul. The song was extremely well received with fans demanding an official release. ‘Lost (I Want You To Stay)’ charted No.1 on the Genius Chart after its performance in December 2021. Recently, thanks to the release of Jaehyun’s acting debut “Dear M” and his performance of the song during NCT 127’s concerts in Japan, ‘Lost’ reached the top spot on the K-R&B charts in Genius Korea. At the time of writing, the song has over 56,000 views on Genius. Jaehyun has also participated in writing lyrics for NCT 127 debut song ‘Fire Truck’ and NCT U’s ‘Dancing In The Rain’.

In 2017, the all-around artist Jaehyun released his first SM Station single, ‘Try Again’ featuring d.ear. ‘Try Again’ is a pop ballad with a minimal acoustic sound; d.ear and Jaehyun‘s soft voices and warm vocalisations tell how a person still believes that their partner is their true love after a breakup and they are longing to try again.

The song was praised for its beautiful sound and Jaehyun’s voice and its artsy concept titled ‘Poetic Beauty’ in which Jaehyun’s visuals are remarkable.

In 2019, Jaehyun‘s soft and angelic voice covered Lauv’s ‘I Like Me Better’ – the American singer-songwriter praised the cover on his Twitter. The cover has reached over 83 million views on YouTube, confirming that it is undoubtedly a fan favourite – not only for Jaehyun’s boyfriend looks while walking around London and Paris.

Aside from building his solo musical career, breaking records with NCT 127 and making his acting debut, Jaehyun recently became Prada’s brand ambassador for South Korea – he attended the ‘SS23 Prada Uomo Fashion Show’ in Milan and graced the cover of ELLE Korea’s August issue. While testing the waters in other industries, surprising fans with solo music like ‘Lost (I Want You To Stay)’ and sharing his photography, Jaehyun has never shown away from wanting to portray and understand emotions. It’s safe to say that ‘Forever Only’ will add to the range of emotions and feelings Jaehyun has explored in his art.

In the NCT LAB project, ‘Forever Only’ is the fourth single to be released. The project was kicked off with Mark’s ‘Child’, followed by NCT U’s (Doyoung, Mark and Haechan) ‘CoNEXTion’ and NCT U’s (Taeil, Kun and YangYang) ‘Rain Day’.

Jaehyun’s ‘Forever Only’ will be released on August 18 at 6 pm KST.

In case you’ve missed it, NCT 127 are set to release their fourth album in September. You can find out more here.
