Gearing up now to release a new album, Sammy Wilk continues to embrace his influences and experiment with his sound. The singer-songwriter has quite the following on social media, and his loyal fanbase has supported him from the beginning and continued to grow over the past few years.

In an exclusive interview with United By Pop, Sammy opens up about his music, fans, and more.

For those who don’t already know, how did you first get started with music?
I first started when I was a senior in high school.  One of my buddies asked if I could talk on the intro to one of his songs and I took the opportunity to write a verse instead. From that day on, I’ve been continuing to evolve my craft and improve the music that I make.

What can you tell us about your new EP, ‘Keep It In The Middle’, and the inspiration behind it?

This EP is a reflection of real-life situations and emotions. There are ups and downs in life, but it’s always important to keep your mind, body, and soul in the middle. The music I write is very authentic to the everyday life that I live.

How do you think your music has evolved over the past couple of years?
My music has evolved quite a bit. When you first start something new, you have to be able to experiment. My music is still evolving to this day and I think will continue to evolve until I feel [as though] I have reached a perfect sound.

Which song would you say that you connect with the most on this five-track EP?
I feel each track is very honest, so it depends on which mood I’m in while I’m listening. If you’re ready to party, you [should] listen to ‘Options’ or ‘Lift Off’. If you’re in your feels, you [should] listen to ‘Help Me’ and  ‘Killer’. if you’re ready for just a good vibe, you [should] listen to ‘Ride’. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter which song you put on, because they’re all great [and have] honest vibes.

You have a ton of fans and supporters across all platforms! What do you love most about connecting with them on social media?
Social media bridges the gap between the distance of me and my fans. It doesn’t matter what part of the world they live in; I have the ability to talk and relate to each and every one of them. Being able to show them love and see the love they show me really puts a big smile on my face.

What has been one of your favorite highlights of your career thus far?
A lot of the things I’ve done thus far in my career I never even dreamt of as a kid, so I take everything as a real blessing. If I had to pick one, it would be performing at the Hollywood Bowl with Kymani Marley.
