The ‘Lovely’ singer was anything but short of energy when she stepped foot on stage, elevated above thousands of people at the House of Blues. The crowd was filled with a diverse audience — including some who had began waiting outside the venue at 8:00 am.

Billie began the set with her song ‘My Boy’ as she darted around from one side of the stage to the other, fans screaming at the top of their lungs and determined to get the singer’s attention. She was in a focused state of mind and in performance mode. However, she still took the time to reach out to recognize fans by grabbing their hands and singing the lyrics only inches away from them.

The sold-out Boston crowd did everything in their power to make sure Billie remembered this particular tour stop. The ‘Bellyache’ singer didn’t stop smiling, acknowledging the fact that this audience was beyond prepared to lose their voices without shame.

Through a mixed variety of her songs, Billie was able to connect to the audience on a personal and more intimate level while keeping them dancing and smiling. There was an ideal balance of upbeat songs and ballads on her setlist. For those who may not have known all of her songs — or fans looking to hear her voice on something new — she played a cover of Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’ on her neon yellow ukulele.

Billie worked the stage effortlessly and made sure to check in on the crowd after songs. She recognized attendees in the standing sections above the general admission pit and continued to ask everyone if they were doing okay throughout her set. Her performance was full of high spirits, with confidence but also vulnerability at times. She made brief speeches before her more personal and serious songs, such as ‘idontwannabeyouanymore’. And although she didn’t speak for long, Billie knew exactly how to affect her fans by the words she chose. Many in attendance were in tears after she put everything she had into her ballads — songs that clearly mean as much to her as they do to her followers.

These dates are selling out for a reason and are definitely worth the fight on ticket sites to get them. With much energy and a humbled personality, Billie gave fans a concert to remember in Boston and will continue to do so on the rest of her tour.
