Why the return of Little Mix will catapult them to a supergroup

Little Mix has announced the details for the first single lifted from their upcoming fourth studio album (already, can you believe?) and it’s gonna be something special. ‘Shout Out To My Ex’ will be released this Sunday after the girls exclusively perform it to the nation on X Factor.

However, this era marks a bit of a turning point for Little Mix. Last year they had tremendous success with the huge single, album and tour – effectively matching the success of Girls Aloud’s success with their fifth album Out of Control back in 2008.

But, Girls Aloud took a break after their huge album – and here are Little Mix stepping into potentially unknown territory. But the girls are on the top of their game right now and are in the best possible place they could be to launch this next chapter in their careers. It looks like the girls could be heading however, into a new direction, creating a more mature image for themselves.

The video for ‘Shout Out To My Ex’ was filmed in Spain and when the girls announced the single we got a glimpse at the outfits the girls would be wearing – and the style is definitely heading in a more sultry direction. And further proof they are ditching their more ‘kid friendly’ appeal is some rumoured lyrics from the track ‘I hope she gettin’ better sex. Hope she ain’t fakin’ it like I did, babe’ – an obvious reference to Zayn, Perrie’s ex.

Whichever way they decide to take their image, they have a lot to beat from last year’s ‘Get Weird’, and the pressure is well and truly on. But they are one of the greatest girl bands of all time and it should be a walk in the park for them, that’s exactly why they are going straight to the top.

Shout Out To My Ex is released on Sunday.
